Collection: Elise Marajel

Elise Marajel, visual artist, born in Beirut.

My artistic exploration began with a reverence to artisans. There, I discovered concrete, a deeply paradoxical material. Raw and elegant, resistant and delicate. My curiosity began to take different paths, less practical, more abstract. In a certain sense, it was concrete that shaped me by converting me from craftswoman to visual artist.

Passionate about concrete, I push the material to its limits through improbable combinations that impose themselves on me.

Since then, I have been exploring this material, which results in something that is beyond me.

Always sensitive to material and texture, composing with concrete represents for me the best way to express my sensitivity. The rough aspect of the concrete and its plasticity allows me to go beyond the essential lines.

By instinctively destructuring the forms, I propose a second, more abstract vision of my subjects.

Trauma, nostalgia and memory distill under my hand and take shape.

I aspire to freeze states of mind.
